Linking the living room straight through to the garden, this garage conversion in Sunningdale, Berkshire, has turned a long, narrow brick garage into a bright new room for the home. A new doorway was opened up from the living room, finished with a solid oak door, and at the far end the rear wall was taken out and replaced with white French doors and side panels that open directly onto the garden.
The old garage floor was raised to house level with a timber frame, insulation boards and a solid deck, and the front of the garage was closed in with a new insulated framed wall. Walls and ceiling were plasterboarded, plastered and painted, with LED downlights and new sockets throughout, while the original timber beam was kept as a characterful feature. The electric and gas meters are now boxed in behind neat flush access panels, hidden from view but easy to reach. At the front, a lined storage area with lighting, sockets and shelving was kept behind the original garage door. The result is a light, warm and versatile room that connects house and garden.
