Home gym and storage in one: this double garage in Claygate, Surrey, had become a dumping ground of boxes, bikes and sports kit, with a treadmill and rowing machine squeezed into whatever space was left. The makeover started at the top, boarding out the loft to create dedicated storage space above, reached by a folding loft ladder, so boxes and seasonal items could be moved up and off the garage floor.
Below, a new plasterboard ceiling closes in the old open roof, and the bare brick walls were boarded, plastered and painted crisp white. Bespoke hexagon LED lighting now spans the ceiling, and dark grey interlocking floor tiles give a tough, comfortable surface that’s ideal for workouts. Gloss grey fitted cabinets provide floor-to-ceiling storage, with a worktop niche and built-in sockets for charging, while open shelving keeps everyday items close to hand. A large black-framed gym mirror completes the training space, making the room feel even bigger. The result is a bright, organised garage that works as a proper home gym without losing its storage.
